This Eurasiatic species is rare or lacking in the N, W and S. Eastwards, in N. Russia and Siberia, it is replaced by C. melanocarpa Cham., also regarded as a subspecies of C. ericetorum. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 72.
