This widespread species has a rather disjunct distribution in Eurasia and N. America. However, its occurrence may be insufficiently known in some parts of the range. On the whole it has a circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 146 and map 137), although there is a considerable gap in the N. Atlantic area. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 64.
