This mainly arctic species belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 82 and map 63). In Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 301, C. redowskiana C. A. Mey. is reported as a subspecies of C. parallela. However, this taxon is, for technical reasons, mapped together with C. davalliana Sm. (no. 439).
