Syn.: Elymus farctus (Viv.) Runem. ex Meld.

Two taxa of this polymorphic sea-shore plant are distinguished, viz. subsp. junceiforme (A. & D. Löve) A. & D. Löve (syn.: Elymus farctus subsp. boreali-atlanticus [Sim. & Guin.] Meld.), occurring along the W. and partly the N. coasts of Europe, and subsp. mediterraneum Sim. along the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. In Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 198, this subspecies is divided into the Mediterranean Elymus farctus subsp. farctus, subsp. bessarabicus (Sävul & Rayss) Meld. at the Black Sea and subsp. rechingeri (Runem.) Meld. in the Aegean region. A. junceum is mapped in Meusel et al. 1965, p. 44.
