1529 Galium verum L.

This polymorphic species is widely distributed as a native plant in Eurasia. The distribution of taxa with either glabrous or pubescent fruits is also illustrated. The range of subsp. wirtgenii (Schultz) Oborny in C. Europe is tentatively mapped. All taxa occurring in N. America are introduced. The species has also been introduced into New Zealand. The present distribution of the species s. lat. is discontinuous circumpolar (Hultén, Circumpol. II, p. 302, 400 and map 293).
