1780 Antennaria carpatica (Wahlenb.) Bluff & Fing. complex

This arctic-montane species belongs to a complex of taxa which, taken together, have an almost circumpolar distribution. The population in the Pyrenees, Alps and Carpathians is distinguished as subsp. carpatica (A. carpatica on the map). The population in the N. Scandinavian mountains, NE. Russia, N. Siberia and the mountains S of Baykal has been described as var. laestadiana Trautv. In a revision of the A. carpatica complex by K. Urbanska-Worytkiewicz (Ber. Geobot. Inst. ETH, Stift. Rubel 40/ 1969, Ztirich 1970) this taxon is named A. villifera Boriss. The closely related N. American species belonging to this complex, viz. A. pulcherrima (Hook.) Greene throughout most of northern N. America and A. lanala (Hook.) Greene in the West, are also mapped.
