This Eurasiatic species usually includes L. sibirica subsp. sukaczevii Dylis (syn.: L. russica [Endl.) Sabine ex Trautv.) in Russia and L. sibirica subsp. sibirica (syn.: L. sibirica Ledeb. s. str.) in W. and C. Siberia. Towards the east L. sibirica is replaced by L. gmelinii (Rupr.) Kuzeneva (syn.: L. dahurica Turcz. ex Trautv.). The two species may hybridize along the poorly defined boundary. In addition to L. sibirica, L. gmelinii is also mapped. The present map is partly based on the recent map of the distribution in the Soviet Union, published in the Atlas of the areas and resources of medical plants of USSR, Moscow 1976, map 32-33.
