Syn.: Gate palustris A. Chev.

This species s. str., occurring in N. and W. Europe and N. America, is mapped together with its var. tomentosa C. D. C. in northwestern N. America and E. Asia. The species s. str. belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 218 and map 199). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 117.
