Syn.: S. afjine Schnitzl.

This variable species occurs in Europe, disjunctly in Asia and in N. America. However, the occurrence in Siberia does not seem to be sufficiently verified. The species is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 214 and map 195). Further investigation may reveal a circumpolar distribution. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 23.
