This mainly arctic species is reported among the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 12 and map 5), although there is a wide gap from Greenland eastwards to N. Russia. In Japan (Hokkaido) the closely related H. pluriflora Koidz. (H. pauciflora sensu auct. japon., non R. Br.) occurs, marked with plus-sign on the map.
