4 Lycopodium complanatum L. subsp. complanatum

Syn.: L. anceps Wallr., Diphasium complanatum (L.) Rothm. subsp. complanatum, Diphasiastrum complanatum (L.) Holub subsp. complanatum

The polymorphic species L. complanatum s. lat. is here represented by three subspecies, viz. subsp. complanatum (map 4), subsp. chamaecyparissus (A. Br.) Asch. & Gr. and subsp. montellii Kukk. Fenn. 21/1984, p. 210. This map shows the main part of the distribution of the subsp. complanatum including some more or less well distinguished lower taxa, e. g. var. flabelliforme Fem. in N. America. Altogether they show a circumpolar pattern (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 118 and map 109). Outside the map area there are some occurrences which are noted in the margin of the map.
