873 Ranunculus aquatilis L. s. str.
Syn.: int. al. R. heterophyllus Web., Batrachium giliberti V. Krecz.
This species (s. str.) has a disjunct distribution. However, the distribution of this and related species has not been thoroughly investigated, partly owing to the complicated taxonomy of the R. aquatilis group (cf. the taxonomic treatment by C. D. K. Cook in Mitt. Bot. Staatssamml. Miinchen 6/1966, p. 47 ff.). As well as in Europe this species occurs in N. Africa (probably more than marked on the map), in the Altai region, China and Japan and in N. America (R. trichophyllus Chaix var. hispidulus [E. R. Drew] W. B. Drew) according to Hultén (Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 469, and unpublished notes). It also occurs in the Andes. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 163 (R. aquatilis s. lat.).
