Syn.: Stellaria aquatica (L.) Scop., Malachium aquaticum (L.) Fr.

This widespread species has apparently two separate distribution areas in Eurasia, one in Europe and W. Asia (and N. Africa?) and one in S. and E. Asia. It may be questioned whether the populations within the two areas are identical. The species has been introduced into N. America.
