1196 Oxytropis campestris (L.) DC.

This polymorphic, Eurasiatic species has a rather disjunct distribution, especially in Europe. Within this species same lower taxa are distinguished (Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 125), int. al. the boreal-montane subsp. campestris with a scattered occurrence in Europe up to S. Scandinavia, subsp. tirolensis (Sieb.) Leins & Merxm. in the C. and E. Alps, and the arctic-montane subsp. sordida (Willd.) Hartm. fil. in NE. Europe, N. Siberia and same C. Asiatic mountains. To this complex of related taxa it might be justified to assign same additional N. American species or subspecies, viz. subsp. gracilis (Nels.) Hult. in western N. America, subsp. jordalii (Pors.) Hult. mainly in Alaska, O. glabrata (Hook.) Nels. in N. Rocky Mts., O. johannensis Fern. in eastern N. America and same other taxa. They are all classed together and tentatively mapped with the same type of line. The whole complex may be considered circumpolar. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 245.
