57 Woodsia alpina (Balton) S. F. Gray

This moderately variable, arctic-montane species occurs in Eurasia and N. America. An aberrant type (W. bellii Pors.) in eastern N. America is included here. The species s. lat. belongs to the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 228 and map 210) hut has also a circumpolar character. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 16.
