Salix lanata
600 Salix lanata L.
This polymorphic, mainly arctic-montane species is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. Besides the main type (subsp. lanata) through most of N. Eurasia (see map) some subspecies are distinguished, with more or less well-defined distribution areas. Marked specially on the map are subsp. richardsonii (Hook.) Skvorts., which probably forms the continuation of subsp. lanata eastwards reaching far into N. Canada, and subsp. calcicola (Fem. & W ieg.) Hult. Subsp. glandulifera (Flod.) Hiit. occurs in arctic Europe within the range of subsp. lanata (cf. Hultén, Atlas 1971, map 572). S. lanata s. lat. belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. II, p. 40 and map 31).
