Syn.: A. mertensii Trin.

This arctic-montane species has an almost circumpolar distribution (a wide gap in C. and E. Siberia). However, it is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants by Hultén (Amphi-atl., p. 198 and map 179). Earlier notes of occurrences in the Pyrenees and Alps are erroneous (Fl. Schweiz 1/1967, p. 259).
