Juncus compressus
180 Juncus compressus Jacq.
This species is widely distributed in Eurasia (for N. America see below). The population in C. Asia may belong to (or be confused with) J gerardi Lois. (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 170). The distribution has been favoured by human activities. It is uncertain whether the species is indigenous (Fernald) or introduced (Roland, Raymond) in N. America. The distribution is, in any case, amphi-atlantic (Hultén, 1. cit. and map 152). In E. Asia it is replaced by the closely related J gracillimus (Buch.) V. Krecz. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 81.
