404 Eleocharis quinqueflora (F. X. Hartm.) O. Schwarz

Syn.: Scirpus pauciflorus Lightf., Eleocharis pauciflora (Lightf.) Link

This polymorphic species occurs more or less disjunctly in Eurasia and N. America. Several lower taxa are distinguished. Besides E. quinqueflora in most of Europe and in C. Asia, the following taxa are mapped here, viz. var. macrantha (Boeckl.) in Syria and Lebanon, var. meridionalis (Zins.) in the western C. Asiatic mountains, var. rhizomatosa Hand.-Mazz. in the SE. Asiatic mountains, var. fernaldii Svens. in eastern N. America and var. suksdorfiana (Beauv.) Svens. in western N. America (in Porsild & Cody 1980, map p. 187, included in var. fernaldil). The species s. lat. belongs to the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 254 and map 236) but shows also a tendency towards circumpolar distribution. It has also been reported from Argentina (Sparre). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 62.
