1235 Trifolium repens L.

This species, now with a world-wide distribution, originates from Europe, NW. Africa and W. Asia. For Europe, Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 162 distinguishes, besides subsp. repens with a wide distribution, five subspecies with rather restricted distribution areas in S. Europe. It is widely cultivated and partly naturalized in mast parts of the world, especially N. America (see the notes on the map).
