This species is restricted to C. and E. Europe. Four subspecies are distinguished in Fl. Eur. 1/1964, p. 198, each of them having restricted distribution areas. In some cases, this plant is spread by man, for instance at the Gulf of Bothnia. The circumscribing line is drawn partly from Jäger in Tax., Phyt. And Evol. (Acad.
