1019 Saxifraga flagellaris Sternb. & Willd.

Within this arctic-montane species s. lat. two subspecies can be distinguished, viz. (1) subsp. flagellaris from N. and NE. Siberia over to northwestern N. America and also in the C. Asiatic mountains and Caucasus, and (2) subsp. platysepala (Trautv.) Pors. with arctic-circumpolar distribution and also occurring in the Rocky Mts. However, the taxonomy of this species is intricate and therefore the interpretation of the distribution varies (cf. Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 250 and map 231; in Sv. Bot. Tidskr. 58/1964, p. 81-104; Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 569; Fl. Eur. 1/1964, p. 369). In the Pamir and Himalayan mountains other subspecies or closely related species occur.
