This mainly arctic-subarctic species includes P. stipularis s. str. over a large area of N. Siberia and var. groenlandica Th. Sørens. in one spot on E. Greenland. Accordingly, the species may be registered among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 108 and map 89).
