This widespread species s. lat. includes here several closely related, more or less dubious taxa (cf. Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 202, and Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 107), among them J. ranarius Song. & Perr. (syn.: J. ambiguus auctt. plur., non Guss.). The species s. lat. belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, op. cit., map 192). It occurs also in many parts of the world outside the map (see the notes on the map). It is difficult to judge to what extent it is native or not in these countries. The map must be regarded as preliminary.
