551 Listera cordata (L.) R. Br.

This mainly boreal-montane species occurs in N. and partly C. Europe (here mostly in the mountains) and disjunctly in Asia and N. America. The E. Asiatic population has been distinguished as var. japonica Hara. The species is reported among the amphi-atlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 252 and map 233), but shows in fact a tendency towards a circumpolar distribution.
