This species was originally restricted to W. Europe. It has spread northwards from there to S. Fennoscandia and east wards through C. and S. Europe (vertical hatching and dots). It has also been introduced into eastern and western N. America and partly naturalized there and into several other parts of the world. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 229.
