This widespread species is very polymorphic (cf. Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 200; Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 171). Among the lower taxa only subsp. hispanica (Roth) Nym. is distinguished on this map. It occurs in the southern part of the range (approximately S of the braken line). For D. aschersoniana Graebn. see no. 208. The species has been introduced into outlying localities in N. Europe and several other parts of the world, for instance S. Africa, N. and S. America, E. Asia, Java, Australia and New Zealand.
