Syn.: int. al. Avena pratensis L., Avenula pratensis (L.) Dum.

This species is mainly restricted to Europe. Its dispersal has been favoured by clearings in the rural landscape. It is replaced eastwards by the closely related H. shellianum (Hackel) Kitag., tentatively mapped here. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 45.
