This species is native in most parts of the distribution area in Europe, N. Africa and SW. Asia. It has been introduced into the British Isles (except the SW. part) and other parts of W. and N. Europe (marked on the map). It has also been introduced into N. America. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 197.
