Syn.: A. latifolia Wahlenb., A. prostrata Bouch.

This polymorphic, widespread species occurs on the seashores and in waste and saline places inland. A special type in SE. Poland and adjacent areas is distinguished as subsp. polonicum (Zapal.) Aellen. This species is easily spread by man and probably introduced into N. America and certainly into Argentina and New Zealand. The present distribution is of the discontinuous circumpolar type (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 198 and map 190).
