This species includes at least three subspecies (Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 272f.). It is restricted to S.C. and S. Europe and adjacent parts of Africa and Asia. It is thought to be native also in S. Sweden (Öland). The map may be partly incomplete. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 292.
