Descurainia sophia
906 Descurainia sophia (L.) Webb ex Prantl
Syn.: Sisymbrium sophia L.
This species presumably originates from SE. Europe and SW. Asia. It has then been widely spread to other parts of Europe and Asia and to S. Africa, N. and S. America and New Zealand. The closely related species D. sophioides (Fisch.) Schultz, perhaps better classified as a subspecies of D. sophia, in northeastern Asia and northwestern N. America is also mapped. As to the present distribution, these two species have together a circumpolar distribution pattern (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 300, 399 f. and map 292).
