1407 Pleurospermum austriacum (L.) Hoffm.

This species is widely distributed in Eurasia. The distribution area seems to be divided into one C. European and one large E. Russian and Asiatic area with populations distinguished as P. uralense Hoffm. and P. camtschaticum Hoffm. (cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 308). An isolated group of occurrences is situated in E. Sweden. Its origin there is uncertain. Several fossil finds (pollen) have been made in lateglacial layers in S. Scandinavia.
