457 Carex pairae F. Schultz
Syn.: C. muricata L. p. p.
This mainly Eurasiatic species is, according to several sources, a complex species with some more or less well-defined taxa. Furthermore, the nomenclature of these taxa varies (cf. Fl. URSS 3/1935, p. 155; Hegi ed. 2/1939, Bd. 2, p. 84; Hylander in Nord. kärlväxtfl. 2/1966, p. 85 ff.; Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 298). The present map includes subsp. pairae (syn.: C. muricata L. subsp. lampocarpa Celak. according to Fl. Eur., I. cit.), a western and southern taxon, and subsp. borealis Hyl. (syn.: C. muricata L. subsp. muricata in Fl. Eur., I. cit.), a northern and eastern taxon. It is not yet possible to map them separately. The distribution is insufficiently known, especially in Russia and W. and C. Asia. The species has been introduced into N. America, probably more than the map shows.
