861 Ranunculus cymbalaria Pursh

This widespread species is native in N. and S. America, following the Andes down to Patagonia, and in Asia where it is distinguished as R. salsuginosus Pall. in Fl. USSR 7 /1970, p. 330 (255). R. cymbalaria has been introduced into Europe. The Fennoscandian occurrences probably originate from diaspores, which together with sweepings from the ship's hold were thrown into the sea and transported to the shore (Luther in Acta Soc. F. Fl. Fenn. 72/1955, p. 10ff.). The species was reported, in fact inappropriately, among the amphi-atlantic plants by Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 264 and map 245).
