1815 Dendranthema arcticum (L.) Tzvel.

Syn.: Chrysanthemum arcticum L.

This species s. lat. is disjunctly distributed in Eurasia and N. America. It is here represented by two subspecies, viz. subsp. arcticum in the pacific E. Asia and northwestern N. America and subsp. polare (Hult.) Heyw. in arctic Eurasia and N. America. Together they have a discontinuous circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 14 and map 5). The closely related D. kurilense Tzvel. (syn.: Chrysanthemum arcticum L. var. yezoense Mackawa) in Japan is also mapped.
