This species is widely distributed in Eurasia. In addition, the closely related E. European M. picta C. Koch is tentatively mapped; possibly also native on Åland (Finland) according to Haeggström in Mem. Soc. F. et Fl. Fenn. 62/1986, p. 5 ff. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 39.
