This mainly European tree is used as an ornamental tree outside the area of native occurrence. It has sometimes spread to the surroundings of these plantations. The ranges of F. angustifolia Vahl in the Mediterranean region and a few closely related taxa eastwards are approximately mapped (cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 346).
