Syn.: H. peltatum auct.
This disjunctly distributed species is restricted to W. Europe and Atlantic islands. Outside the map area it is reported from, int. al., C. Africa, S. America, Tasmania and New Zealand. One of the related taxa, H wrightii v. d. Bosch, occurs in Japan etc. (see the map). It is also found on Queen Charlotte Islands in W. Canada (Calder & Taylor, Fl. Qu. Charl. Is. 1/1968, p. 143). Altogether this group of taxa is considered as circumpolar according to Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 156 and map 148, although it is lacking in most of Asia and N. America.
