This arctic-boreal species occurs through most of northern N. America, in easternmost Asia and in Greenland. There is only one locality in Europe (Norway, Solvaagtind) where, however, it occurs abundantly. Thus, the species belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 188 and map 170). A few lower taxa are distinguished in America (1. cit.).
